Wedding Information
Please inform the church as soon as possible if your wedding
is likely to have any military involvement - Military footwear
can cause a lot of damage to the church floor, and so we like
a bit of warning beforehand please.
Weddings at St. Mary’s Church
Bridegroom and Best Man arrive 20-30 minutes before the service
to greet the first guests.
Bridegroom and Best man sit in the front pew on the right hand
(south) side ready to stand at the front when the minister passes.
The Bridegroom sits at the end of the pew, and comes out first.
Bride and attendants are met by the minister at the West Door (the door
nearest the Lychgate).
When the organ begins to play the chosen entry music the Bridal
Party walks slowly down the aisle to join the Bridegroom etc.
The Minister precedes Bridal Party to the front of the Church.
The Chief Bridesmaid attends to bride’s veil (if appropriate)
and takes her bouquet.
All the Bridesmaids and Pages go into the front pew vacated by
the Groom and Best Man.
Brides Father and Best Man return to their pews at the minister’s
direction.
After the prayers, the whole bridal party goes into the Vestry.
Two witnesses are needed to sign the registers. These should be
decided in advance.
Bridal party lines up inside the Vestry to recess out. The chief
Bridesmaid should remember to give the Bride her bouquet back
by this stage!
The Bride and Groom should come out well before the rest of the
bridal party starts to follow, and should stand at the chancel
together until their exit music begins. This is a good photo
opportunity!
The rest of the Bridal party process slowly down the aisle (leaving
a gap between themselves and the Bride and Groom for photographs),
and out of the west door.
The West Door will be closed behind them to enclose the bell tower,
and the guests will leave by the South Door.
The minister gives all instructions. It is his responsibility for
seeing that everything works out - so don’t worry!!!
