Church camp

Here are some pictures from our first ever (as far as I know) church camp, over the weekend of the 8th to 10th May at Rushall Manor Farm.

A surprisingly large number of people were prepared to brave the uncertainties of an English Spring, and I am sure none regretted it! Here is the camping field we used (the less soggy of the two available!)

How can I put this....well, the weather could have been kinder. There was lots of this around, so wellies were de rigueur as footware. As all of the meetings and eating took place in proper buildings, the mud was really just a minor inconvenience.

Here is the splendidly restored black barn in which all the main meetings were held.

And here it is on the inside, this photo being taken during the Sunday morning service. It was great that so many people were able to come and join us for this, so we could meet and worship together.

Special thanks here for the worship group, who played so well for us, and to Rhodri, Lesley and Rachel for planning the various worship sessions. Also to our special guest speaker Ed Hobbs, kindly lent to us by St.Nics.

The food throughout the weekend was outstanding, as the diners illustrated here will be glad to testify. Many thanks to Julie and her helpers for all the hard work and planning!

There were some lovely walks around the farm, including a trail through the bluebell woods.

Here are all the happy campers on Sunday afternoon. I think everyone who was there will agree the weekend was a great success, and much of the credit must go to Matt, who organised the whole thing. Thanks Matt - your efforts were much appreciated!!

Now then, when should we do it again???

Lacock Abbey trip

Here are some pictures from our church outing to Lacock Abbey on Sunday 27th June.

The village is a very pretty one, and has been used several times for the filming of classic serials, such as Pride and prejudice and Emma (without the cars of course!)

I think there were about 40 of us on the coach, and though we drove through some rain on the trip from Newbury, the weather during the afternoon was generally sunny. A picnic in the park was the ideal way to start proceedings.

This is the Abbey seen from the main drive

And here it is close up.

These cloisters may be familiar to those who have seen the Harry Potter films, as some of the filming was done here.

Lots of garden to explore at the Abbey. Above is the botanic garden. Did anyone else find the Rose garden below tucked away off the beaten track?

To finish our visit, we were invited by Sally Wheeler the vicar to attend Evensong at St. Cyriacs church. I think we outnumbered the regulars considerably! It was an excellent way to finish a splendid day out.
