Home Groups

If you want to join one of our informal home groups you would be very welcome at any of them. Please see Buff or contact the church office for details of a day and time to suit you.

X:Site

X:site is a collaboration between Scripture Union and the churches of Newbury to hold regular Christian events for children aged 7-11yrs. These are lively and fun and a good place to bring school friends where they can learn about Jesus. X:site is backed by CTNA and the volunteer team of group leaders, musicians, technicians and administrators are from many of the different churches in the town. For more information visit the Newbury X:Site web site.

Website Update

Apologies for the patchiness of updates recently. A relaunch of the site with a new appearance and improved layout is currently being worked on. We will hopefully go public with the new site some time in 2009, but in the meantime, please bear with us!

Marriage measure

The new Church of England Marriage Measure was launched on 1st October 2008. Basically it means couples will be able to choose from a wider selection of churches to get married in, so if you are thinking of getting married at St. Mary's, you will find useful information by following the link to the Church of England web site here.

Library of talks and readings

We are continuing to record the sermons and readings at each service, and keep a library up on the sound desk - one tape for each month. These might be useful if you miss a service and would like to listen to a talk before it is discussed at the next house group. If you would like to borrow a tape, or have your own copy, please see Mike Stuart.

Fairtrade - not just for a fortnight!

Why not:
  • Get in the Fairtrade habit; see the article from our diocesan Fairtrade Champion - click here to read it (use back button to return)
  • Check on what is happening locally from the Town Council website (choose Home/Fairtrade on menu). Newbury is about to become a Fairtrade Town.
  • Browse the Traidcraft website or get a catalogue from church for gifts and food items not available in supermarkets. Order direct or ask Mary Taylor to order if you need a small quantity. Try the one-cup teabags (£2.05 for 100) or the jute big shopping bag (£8) to name but 2 ideas.
  • Find out more about Fairtrade from www.fairtrade.org.uk , including recipes.
  • Look at the displays in church and centre.
